Europe takes over the management in the field of cryptocurrencies, while the United States hesitates when regulating

Europe is developing into a new global crypto hub, driven by its mica regulatory framework, which attracts investors and platforms alike.
With the clear rules that are now applicable, the activities in the field of digital assets have increased strongly on the entire continent, while the USA, despite the crypto -friendly rhetoric, has to deal with continuing legal uncertainty.
The Paybis crypto tour reported an increase in trading volume by European users in the first quarter of 2025, immediately after the Mica came into force. In contrast, the activity in the USA has slowed down: platforms such as Robinhood recorded a decline in the crypto trade volume by more than a third, and the interest of private investors in Coinbase has decreased significantly since 2021.
The main attraction for companies and users is the Passporting System of Mica: As soon as a crypto company has received a permit in an EU state, it can work throughout the Union. This uniform licensing has caused companies such as Coinbase, OKX and Crypto.com to apply for approval within the framework of the rules, since they can now assume that their services can be offered continuously.
The investors react positively. In France, where there is already crypto regulation as part of the Pacte Act, the activity has increased by over 170%, while Germany expands its institutional infrastructure. Other countries such as the Netherlands and Lithuania also open up niches in the context of Mica, from payments to compliance.
Meanwhile, there is still confusion among US companies. Fragmented license requirements, unresolved legal disputes and unclear federal regulations make orientation more difficult on the market. Despite the supportive attitude of President Trump, the regulatory vacuum remains an obstacle. A pending bill, the Genius Act, could change this by introducing national regulations and definitions for stable coins – and thus may trigger the same dynamics that can currently be observed in Europe.
