Emirates will make payments possible for its customers via the cryptocurrency platform “Crypto.com”. According to its own statements, the airline has signed a corresponding preliminary agreement.
The partnership should come into force in the coming year. It aims at “younger, technology -savvy customer segments that prefer digital currencies,” said Adnan Kazim, deputy president and head of sales of Emirates.
The United Arab Emirates are becoming an important center for cryptocurrency companies. Several companies have opened branches there or plan expansions. The country already enables cryptocurrency payments in areas such as real estate, school fees and transport.
Dubai set up the Vara supervisory authority in 2022 to regulate virtual assets. The DMCC free trade zone houses more than 650 cryptocurrency companies.
Other airlines have already introduced cryptocurrencies as a payment option. Air Arabia announced in May to accept the dirham-supported stable coin “Ae Coin” for flight bookings.
