Women in Crypto | brutkasten

Founders are still underrepresented in the Austrian Founder scene-this is not least underlining the Austrian Startup Report 2021. The proportion of women in start-ups are therefore 17 percent, with 7 percent female individual foundations and 2 percent purely female founding teams. It is therefore obvious that founders are also strongly underrepresented or especially in the crypto scene. A look at the side of the crypto investors also draws this picture. Although more worldwide last year Women as men first investments In cryptocurrencies, the typical crypto investor – at least in Austria – is 93 percent male. There are many reasons for this imbalance. Opportunities to counteract this as well. At the innovation afterhour event of wexelerates and incubator under the motto “Female Crypto Empowerment”, this topic was at the center. In a combination of input input to investments and NFTs and a socially critical panel with suggestions, how more women are actively or visible in the industry, various personalities came together from the scene.
“Education statt Regulation”
Blockpit content Director Katharina Scheutz started with a presentation of the Lady Investment Circle I-Invest. This focuses on financial education and community building for women who want to learn more about investment. The focus is on individual financial success in a long -term investment strategy. Scheutz emphasizes that women do not necessarily lack the money to invest. Rather, in many cases it would simply lack knowledge to become active. In order to counteract this, I-Invest wanted to offer a learning and exchange platform- Scheutz believes in the motto: “Education instead of regulation”.
Last but not least, she refers to the fact that 20 percent of women's cryptoin investments are currently being made. This would represent women more than with other forms of investment, but Scheutz emphasizes that there is still room for improvement. Panel discussion: How do women become more active in the crypto industry?
In the panel discussion moderated by Krypto.logisch-Podcasterin Frederika Ferková, product manager Irina Grinkina from the Austrian Post, psychologist Anna Krenn from the Anton Proksch Institute and founder Sofia Surma of UA Viva La Vulva came together on stage. Together, it should be discussed why the crypto scene has so far been dominated by male and what you can do so that more women become active in the crypto world.
As a reason for the current discrepancy, the panelists initially refer to the starting situation: the sectors finance, technology and investments are already very male -dominated, so this also reflects in the crypto sector. The gender play gap would also lead to women tend to have less courage to invest. When it comes to visibility in the blockchain world, the participants in turn refer to another observation: women would therefore tend to only appear as experts if they do not know a lot but everything about a topic. So although there are already some women in the blockchain industry, one has to emphasize even more active for more visibility.
From the stamp collection to the NFT collection: The Crypto Stamp
At the third program item of the evening, Irina Grinkina spoke about the Crypto Stamp of the Austrian Post. The project began in 2019 and represented the path of a traditional company that combines a crypto product with a traditional product such as a stamp. Post has decided to implement an innovative project with blockchain technology-blockchain expert Grinkina wants to advance this goal with her team.
The passion for collecting, which has so far often been known from stamp collectors: inside, should be connected to the NFT world. After a unicorn head was decided on the first motif three years ago, the post gets for every further motive inspiration from the community to decide which other animal motifs could fit on the Crypto Stamp. The inputs of the presentations could then be further discussed as part of the Block & Wine Community Meetups.
The next innovation afterhour will take place on June 30, 2022 in the Wexelerate Auditorium. The event will be the question “Trend canvas – How do future researchers think: inside?” turn.
